Deteriorating to Category 2
So, our hypothetical person carries on getting some good noise exposures via their MP3 player, maybe a few trips to the pub a week when it's busy, and also not wearing hearing protection when in a loud area at work. The noise continues to damage their hearing and eventually it becomes a firm Category 2, in this case the result is the lowest level which could still be classed as a Category 2 for a chap in his mid-40s.
In blocks of hearing tests done at work, on average around 20% of employees will come in as a Category 2 so you can expect one in five of your friends or colleagues to have hearing at this level. Here, the vocals are OK when the band are quiet but when the band start up again the voices are starting to get buried into the overall noise which is a little muffled now.
