The noise services

Noise assessment is the foundation of all things holy, or at least all things workplace noise management related anyway, meaning noise surveys are an important part of managing employee risks at work, including the obvious areas such as engineering, construction or the food industry, but also the less obvious such as hospitals, schools and shipping.

Audiometry is the touchy-feely element of the Noise Regs and The Noise Chap offers a system of workplace hearing tests where you, the client, remain in control of your data. With the noise training service you get a noise-obsessed and experienced trainer to darken your doorstep and fill your employees with enthusiasm for all things noise related.

The free advice

The site is not all about selling noise assessment related services and if you are filled with a particularly deep sense of self-loathing and are thinking about doing a noise assessment yourself then this site should point you in the right direction. The law part explains what is needed, the Health Stuff section breaks down what audiometry actually is, while the hearing protection pages go into how to choose and use it.

The Hearing Loss Demo can help in getting across to employees what hearing losses due to noise sound like, the Noise Levels page gives a database of real-world noise levels while the Hearing Protection Data page lets you compare over 200 types of hearing protection.

If you are looking for high quality noise assessment, training or audiometry services from someone who should probably think about noise a little less and get out more, contact The Noise Chap to arrange a friendly coffee-fuelled chap to come round and sort you out. (That's not meant to sound quite as perverse as it does.)

FREE NOISE ADVICE

NOISE LAW

WHERE IT ALL STARTS

Just what you need to get you out of bed with a spring in your step in a morning, a whole section dedicated to the Noise Regulations. Contain yourselves. This gives a plain-english guide to the Noise Regs, including a simple overview of all the main requirements and then a nice straight-forward interpretation of what it means.

NOISE ASSESSMENT

THE MEATY BIT

Noise assessments are the most important step in helping you comply with the Regs, deciding which areas are problematic, what hearing protection is needed, etc. These pages give you information on what a noise assessment or noise survey should look like, tips on how to do it and what the results should contain.

HEALTH STUFF

THE TOUCHY-FEELY PART

As well as all the stuff about exposure limits, noise assessment and training employees, the Noise Regs also require 'health surveillance' for affected employees. This section tells you what this is, who it applies to (and who it doesn't), what the basics of an audiometry programme are and what to look for when buying services.

NOISE LEVELS

Part of the conundrum in deciding if a noise assessment is needed is having an idea of the possible noise levels in the first place. This free-to-use searchable database contains real-world noise level from a variety of industries and can help in making that decision.
