NOISE ASSESSMENTS
FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSULTANCIES
Sub-contract noise assessments ● Noise assessments for consultancy clients
I do a lot of work for clients who have come via a health and safety consultancy and can offer three ways of working for this.
Standard route
If a company needing a noise assessment contacts me directly I will quote as I would for any other enquiry.
Benefits of this route
Simplest approach of all.
All communication is direct from me to the client company. No admin at all for the consultancy.
The report goes directly to the client.
Client is invoiced for it.
In these cases, they are the same as any other job so in effect I have no indication it is via a consultancy.
Recommendation route
I can offer discounted rates for clients coming to me after being referred by a health and safety consultancy.
Benefits of this route
if the client tells me they have been referred I treat the referring consultancy as one repeat-business client and offer the repeat business discounted rate to the client.
The referring consultancy has no other admin involvement as everything is between me and the client.
Just tell the client to mention your name when they contact me.
The referring consultancy benefits as the client sees they have been given a discounted rate as a result of the referring consultancy.
This is the most common route used by consultancies and I have several health and safety consultancies and insurers who recommend their clients use me.
Sub-contract route
I am happy to do noise assessment work for consultancies on an entirely sub-contract basis.
Benefits of this route
The entire noise assessment is branded under the health and safety consultancy, there is no ‘Noise Chap’ branding.
All admin contact with the client is between the consultancy and client, nothing from me to client.
The consultancy is able to offer ‘in-house’ noise assessments via a very experienced assessor and has no investment needs for equipment, training, vehicle, etc.
I charge the consultancy a flat fee for the complete assessment including travel, my time and report.
I invoice the consultancy. The consultancy then invoices the client at their own agreed rates.
Other bits of information
I have no other services to offer - all I provide is noise assessments therefore there is no potential for me to poach wider business from a client to the detriment of a consultancy.
For the recommendation route I will send the client reminders when future noise assessments are coming due but the referral discount remains each time.
Where the sub-contract route is followed I do not send any reminders about noise assessments coming due again in the future - all reminders are sent to the consultancy as I have no contact with the client.
For the discounted rate on the recommendation route, it applies from the third job onwards for any consultancy. I used to do it from the first job but have been bitten several times by consultancies promising a deluge of work, me offering them a discounted rate from the first job and then it turns out they only have a need for one or two noise assessments anyway.
In the sub-contract route I offer a rebate on the first and second assessment once the third is taking place meaning all end up at the discounted rate.
If you are a health and safety consultancy looking at the recommendation or sub-contract route and would like any more information please do just let me know.
